Folly Beach

The only bad thing about this tip to the beach was that I left our camera in the beach bag when the tide was coming in and...the camera broke. But at least we still had the pictures on the memory card! We now have a new camera and it's orage! I think the next beach will be at will be at a lake.....Lake Tahoe!

On Friday, I went to the dentist becuase I was having some tooth pain. I had a dental abscess-- ross! No wonder my tooth was hurting. My awesome dentist said that everyone else would remember that day as the day of the earthquake in Japan, but that I would remember it as the day I had my first root canal. I was SO grateful that he could fix my tooth right then and very appreciative of my sweet friend, Cori, who watched James and Abby for me. I don't think James would've been all that excited about watching mommy lay in the chair with all this stuff in her mouth with a loud drill going. I mean, he used to get pretty worked up about the noise of the vacuum. Now my tooth feels great! Yay for root canals! I learned some interesting things about teeth, like the fact that pulp chambers decrease in sze with age. Based on the size of the affected tooth's pulp chamber, my dentist estimated that my tooth had been dead (maybe as the result of trauma?), but hadn't had any decay for neary 20 YEARS and that it just hadn't caused any problems thus far. Crazy.

Abby has two teeth now and they are so cute.

James utilizes his mouthful of teeth regularly. This is an example of what he did to the oranges through the bag while we were still at the grocery store. He likes totry bananas this way, too, and seems disappointed when the peels don't taste good.

Babies

My two babies are so big! I know it's kind of trite, but seriously, they grow up so fast.

My BIG baby, James is 19 months old now. His favorite activites include:

1. Taking all the shampoo/deodorant/etc containers out of the drawers and lining them up in various places; I call this "organizing."

2. Climing up on any available item.

3. Playing at the playground and swinging.

4. Getting his head tickled by Abby as she reaches out to touch it; he thinks this is so fun and will lean over and put his head in her lap in the double stroller so he can get a good head tickle.

5.Reading his books (current faves include Hop on Pop; Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb; and My Little Word Book.

My not-so-little little baby, Abby, turned 8 months old yesterday. Abby has two teeth now. She is just a delight and is almost always happy these days. Abby loves to:

1. Get tickled on her tummy and under her chin.

2. Scream and shriek.

3. Sit up and hold her toys.

4. Chew, chew, chew, chomp, chomp.

There are some perks to living on the coast....

James had some photos taken with bunnies, a lamb, and some chicks. As you can see, the chicks were a hit, but the bunnies didn't go over quite so well! I think we ended up with some pretty cute pictures of our little man!

Happy News

We found out on March 3 that we will be having a baby girl in July! It really was quite thrilling to be able to go to BOTH sides of the baby stores the other day!

In unrelated, but also happy news, we put our house on the market and sold it in a whopping one day. The sign in the front yard went from "Open Sun 1-3" to "SOLD" in less than 48 hours. Blessings have been showered down on us this week. We are looking forward to be in South Carolina this coming year, but will miss our first house that has been such a wonderful home for us and baby James.

It was a rare warm February day today (60 degrees!) and we took advantage by taking a stroll around the park. James liked hitting his daddy's head and the park benches very much and did NOT like touching the snow.

As of yesterday, Brian and I have been married for FOUR years! I am so fortunate to now have not just one amazing, handsome man in my life, but two of them! I love looking at the pictures from that chilly, chilly February day in Salt Lake and thinking about the beginning of my life with my wonderful man!

It has come to my attention that my parents have been doing this blog and I would just like to clarify any possible misunderstandings by contributing my point of view. I am 6 months old now and have lived a busy life. I am constantly trying to communicate with my parents without much success, especially with daddy when mommy is at work. I cry to let him know that I am hungry and he puts me down for a nap. I cry to let him know I am tired and he attempts to put a bottle in my mouth -sheesh!

I have an extensive collection of cowboy paraphernalia and clothes. I have taken over the majority of the house, although I do let me parents use a few of the rooms. I like to make sure that I have at least one major item in each room to mark my territory. I have heard whisperings of a sibling on the way, a fact I have been unable to confirm; but, if true, it should provide enough distraction for us to take over the entire house! I'll let you know what happens.

My renown is such that visitors come to see me from far reaches of the United States such as Virginia, Texas, and Utah. Whenever they come they leave some type of pecuniary testimonial with such delicacy, which I accept gracefully just as the Father of the Marshalsae. In return, I make sure to wake up several times at night to let them know I appreciate them. They come running into my room to talk baby talk to me and tell each other how cute I am. How astute they are!

Over the last Christmas holiday I got to visit Gammie and Poppie. I let them feed me solid foods for the first time. Boy that was fun! I don't understand though why they can't just put the food in my mouth; it gets all over my cheeks, forehead and even my hair! Just like when mommy and daddy feed me. Anyways, we had lots of fun. I acted like I couldn't unwrap my presents so that mommy had to help me out. I got some cool boots amongst other things. I posted my favorite picture of them on the right. Pop quiz: was this picture taken at Christmas time?

Then in January Grandma and Grandpa Davis came to visit. I noticed Grandpa and I must have the same barber. Do you see what I mean? Grandma couldn't hold me long enough. They also brought me some ne

at toys, all of which I've marked my slobber. I know it grosses everybody else out, but if I don't I'm afraid daddy would play with them.

Then, Maridin, Craig, and Zoe came to visit. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Craig also shares the same barber. Imagine how much he must charge to run all over the country to give guys these awesome haircuts! I may grow up to be a barber some day.

Well, I'm getting kind of tired. Hopefully they'll put me in my swing. I'm gonna let em know by crying. I bet you my monogrammed burp cloth dad will try to stick a bottle in my mouth - too bad cause I'm already stuffed. Sometimes when I get really tired I like to put random things on my head. Since my last post, James has...

3) rolled over! and is working on sitting on his own (but always falls over or pushes himself backwards)

We are doing well and thinking about our upcoming move to Charleston, South Carolina in June!

Although our lives completely revolve around James now, which is the way we want it, my routine is about to be expanded to include a new job. I graduated from residency in emergency medicine at the University of Kentucky in June (HOORAY!!). In retrospect, residency went by pretty quickly. During the weeks when I didn't see Brian much becuase I was working evening shifts and during months with long nights of call, it didn't always feel like it was going by too fast. I am glad it is OVER! I will be starting part-time work in the same ER where I have trained starting on September 12. This is a fairly intimidating situation for me as the physicians that have been my teachers are now...presto!...my coworkers. The folks that are just one, two, or three years behind me in training will now be asking me the questions. I feel very grateful and excited that I can work part-time and be at home with James the majority of the time.

Brian and I found out that we would be coming to Kentucky in March of 2006. We didn't know much about the place. What a blessing it has been to be here! For one, it has been a very easy place to live while we have been in residency. We have met some wonderful people and have friendships that we will treasure forever. Lexington is the place where we have started to learn how to be married and where our family grew by 50% with the birth of James in July!

James had his 2-week check-up on August 4th and weighed 8 lb 9 oz (up fron 7 lb 14 oz)! We went to the grocery store (his first trip!) afterwards.

James Christopher Davis

Our baby boy is here! James Christopher Davis was born at 1:14 pm on July 21, 2009! He weighed 7 pounds and 14 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. My (Liz talking here) water broke while I was at home talking to mom on the phone on Monday (July 20) evening, so Brian and I drove to the University of Kentucky Hospital. I highly recommend this method of starting labor as there is no need to time painful contractions at home. I got to the hospital well before any real contractions began; and as soon as they did, the miracle of anesthesia took the pain away!

I came to appreciate how annoying it is to be a patient in the hospital. The list of hospital personnel that regularly walked right into our room included: food service, nurse/tech to check my vital signs, nurse/tech to check James' vital signs, pediatric intern, pediatric resident, pediatric attending, photographer, nurse to examine me, OB/GYN resident, OB/GYN attending. We are so appreciative of everyone's kindness and care, but we were glad to get home! Brian did luck out and get his own hospital bed for our two-night stay.

We brought James home on July 23. He seems to like his new environment so far. Brian is a wonderful daddy and has been taking great care of both of us. James and I love it when he comes home from work.

Trip to Louisville

Brian and I attempted to go to the Louisiville, Kentucky temple on July 4th, but it was closed. (We have since seen the "maintenance closings" section on the website--oops.) So, we made the best of the day. We took prego photos in front of the locked temple, went to the Cheesecake Factory (one of Liz's favorites), hit Best Buy and Babies 'R' Us, and visited our friends, the Bloods, who have moved back to Kentucky! Lucky us!
